Moving Heavy Items

Trying to move heavy or large items can be hard on your body, especially if you are trying to move them by hand. When lifting the items you can put an unwanted pressure onto your back and this could cause a serious injury, which could take months to get over and possible keep you off work.

To make sure that you protect your back there are a range of industrial trucks available and they are capable of manoeuvring a selection of different items. If you use industrial trucks you are also capable of moving a larger quantity of items in one go; this save a lot of time and energy.

There are sack trucks, which are smaller storage units that are easy to steer. There are also industrial trucks that are designed especially to move large or heavy items up and down the stairs. If you use a standard sack truck up and down the stairs, you could cause an accident and the items will fall off of the truck and break.

There are a range of trolleys and these are better units as you can distribute a larger weight around the trolley, but they are harder to manoeuvre. For a larger industrial solution there are pallet trucks and these are ideal for the workplace. Pallet trucks are one of the most expensive industrial trucks on the market, but they are essential for any business to make sure that your employees do not injure themselves and issue an injury claim against the company.

Recycle Your Paperwork Once Finished

We all try our best to live in a society where we limit the amount of paperwork that we have around us. Unfortunately, this is not always the case as there are some documents that you need to keep and store away in case they are needed.

These can be documents such as banking documents, contracts, leases, bills, receipts and guarantees. All of these documents require being stored away for a number of years in case you need to refer back to them.

In order to easily locate what you are looking for, it is best that you keep all of the documents in a paper storage system. There is a selection of different paper storage units; it really depends on your personal preference and the quantity of documents that you have to store.

There are storage cabinets with shelves; these have doors on the cabinet which means that they can be locked so that documents are secure. There are also racking units and shelves.

There are file holders that can be placed onto the shelves of the various units, and they are especially designed to support a number of folders and keep them safe and organised. You can put a different category of paperwork into each file and add your paperwork each month.

Once you have finished with the paperwork that you have stored away, you should try your best to reduce your carbon footprint that you put onto the world by recycling the paperwork accordingly.

A Place for the Children to do Their Homework

We all need an area to work from, be it in the home or the office and what better than to use work tables. Work tables allow you to lay out your items that you need to use so that you can have regular, easy access to your belongings.

Your older children can use work tables to complete their homework, younger children could use them to play games or paint and if you have a hobby that involves arts and crafts you can also use a work table.

In the home, having work benches mean that you do not have to use the dining room table and have to clear the table every time you have to eat dinner. Having to clear you items away means that they can become disorganised and it can be time consuming to pack and unpack the items.

In your office there are work tables that can be designed especially to suit your requirements; there are shelves at various levels to store items, or there are drawers that have locks on to secure expensive or confidential items.

There are work tables that come in a selection of different sizes and they come in a wide range of prices to accommodate a wide range of budgets.

Some workbenches are designed with reinforced shelves, so that they are heavy duty and they are capable of holding a greater weight than standard desks. These are just what you need to use in your garage or shed for all of your DIY needs.

Secure and Confidential Storage

In the workplace there are documents that are confidential and need to be stored away so that you have space on your desk to allow you to carry out your job. The confidential documents need to be at hand and easy to locate so that you can access them promptly when they are needed.

The documents can be personnel documents, bank account information, salary figures, contracts, leases or any other confidential details of the business. These are all documents that a business may have to hold onto for a number of years until they can be destroyed.

You also should make sure that the documents are locked away, storage cabinets will help achieve this and the keys to the cabinet can be issued to authorised personnel that can have access to the contents. This means that you know that they are secure and confidential at all times.

Storage cabinets also have shelves in the unit, so if you have expensive items such as satellite navigation, mobile phones, laptops or computer equipment in the office, lock them in the cabinet to make sure they are safe at all times. It also ensures you can keep track of anyone that uses or borrows the items until they are returned back to the storage cabinet.

If you have a lot of documents or expensive items there are additional shelves that can be purchased and placed into the cabinets, so that you can create the extra space that you need.

The Right Storage Unit for You

There are a wide range of storage solutions available on the market. When you are looking for the storage unit you have to make sure that it suits all of your needs.

Before you make the purchase you have to consider all of the items that you have to store and how much they weigh, to ensure you have a unit that will work best for you and your belongings.

There are storage units that come in a range of shapes and sizes, and the shelves on the storage racking can be adjusted to heights to suit. There are additional shelves that can be purchased and added to the shelving units if you have a lot of smaller items to house.

Shelving units can be used all around you home, in the bathroom to store all of those beauty products, in a cupboard or wardrobe to organise your shoes, in the bedroom to hang up your clothes, in the front room to hold all of your CDs and DVDs and in the kitchen if you have a limited number of cupboards available to store food.

If your storage needs change over the years then instead of wasting money having to buy larger units and having to throw away you old existing units, you can purchase connectors, so that you can connect the existing shelf racks together. There are also edging that can be attached to the edges of the shelves so that the items remain secure on each shelf.

Children’s Bedrooms

A child’s bedroom has many purposes, it is needed for the child to sleep in, while also housing all of their clothes, accessories and toys. The room also has to give your child some floor space to enable them to be able to play with their toys.

Children’s bedrooms are normally the smaller rooms in the home, so you need to purchase some storage systems that will help you to organise the bedroom and make the most of the space that there is available.

There are shelves that can be hung onto the wall of the room. They can be placed wherever they are needed or there are storage racks that are units that have a number of shelves on and can be placed on the floor of the bedroom.

The storage racks come with a selection of accessories and you can also have garment rails on the storage racks, so that you can hang up your child’s clothes, so that they remain clean and crease free.

If your child has a lot of toys and a lot of them are quite small then to make sure they are kept together, there are plastic storage boxes available. These can house the toys and be placed onto the shelves of the storage racks or placed under the bed to keep the room looking neat and tidy. The plastic storage boxes come in a range of colours, so you can have storage boxes that match the décor of your child’s bedroom.

Easy to Assemble

Every time you go shopping you purchases items and take them home. Bringing more and more items into your house means that you need to find a home for all of these items, so that they are not in your way and easy to access when needed.

This is where there may be a requirement for temporary storage in your home. The good thing about temporary storage systems are that they are easy to assemble and disassemble, which means that you can use them for every situation for as long as they are required.

Most temporary storage units are bolt free and use a snap together system. The only tool that you need to put the unit together is a mallet, which is great if you do not own many tools.

The temporary storage units can be folded up with ease and put away, so that they can be stored in the garage or cupboard until they are required for your next storage issue.

The best purchase you can make when picking you temporary storage is to make sure that it is a multipurpose unit, so the shelves can be adjusted to suit the storage needs for a wide range of items. This makes sure that you get a storage system that is value for money.

If you need to modify the unit to create the perfect storage system, then there are accessories available, so that you can design the ideal unit for all of your needs.

Prevention Is Better Than Cure

An old saying that still holds true is ‘prevention is better than cure’. Many emergency repairs around the house could be avoided by carrying out regular maintenance checks of the various items that need to looked at.

Draw up a list of things that need to be checked. Shelving and racking, for instance. Make sure they are still securely fixed to the wall. If one has worked loose, try fitting a larger wall plug and a longer screw.

Plumbing checks.

Stop cocks can jam because they haven’t been used for a while. Two or three times a year, fully close them then open them again. A stiff handle should work loose after a couple of turns. A tap that keeps dripping even after being fully closed needs a new washer.

Electrical checks.

Never work on live equipment. If you are working on an appliance, unplug it first. If it is permanently wired equipment, turn off the power at the mains. Light fittings should be checked for signs of wear. Extractor fans should be cleaned regularly.

Central heating checks.

With gas fired central heating, if a radiator is not heating up properly, there is probably air trapped inside which needs to be bled out. Use the radiator key to slowly turn the valve until the air begins to escape, as soon as the hissing stops, close it quickly to prevent water escaping. A small container such as a bowl will be useful to catch any that does.

Home Office or Hobby Room?

There is sometimes a need to create a space for a home office or a hobby room. If you have a room that has never been used other than as a storage area for odds and ends, it might be time to consider clearing it out and giving it a whole new look and lease of life.

If you want the room to look larger than it is, especially if you are going to be working there all day, you need to examine the colour scheme. Dark coloured walls or wallpaper will make the room feel smaller. Perhaps you will favour the idea of only papering one wall and painting the others. Use plain, light coloured paper and try to match its colour to the paint. Subtle shades of apple white, for example, will help to add some warmth that you may not get with a brilliant white.

The floor and ceiling need to be as light as possible too. Paint the ceiling white and if the carpet is too dark, remove it. When furnishing the room, go for light pine wood if you feel it is practical. Be careful where you place your work desk if using a computer or laptop, as you need as much natural light in front of you as possible.

Make sure you put wall space to good use and install floor to ceiling shelving units for books, files or document storage. Use modular units to enable you to rearrange them if the mood takes you.

Optimise Your Garage’s Storage Potential

The vast majority of homes in the UK come with built-in garages, and whilst these extensions to our homes were designed to store cars and other vehicles, they are often more useful for the average homeowner as a storage space for all manner of items.

From tool kits and workbenches to seasonal games and garden furniture, garages can easily and quickly become full of clutter. Finding anything in this building can be a task in itself, which is why it pays to have some sort of organisational system in place.

One of the most effective and simple storage solutions available is shelving. Expense for storage shelves is often minimal, and they are available in a range of different materials to ensure that however heavy the item, there are durable shelves to suit.

Plastic shelves are the cheapest option, and are ideal for storing lightweight items. Metal shelves, on the other hand, are more suitable if the garage is being used primarily to store heavy tools, as they won’t bend or break like plastic shelves as they are more hard-wearing.

Shelves are ideal storage solutions in any area of the home, as they can be easily installed and fixed onto walls, thus optimising the space available in even the smallest of rooms. This makes it much easier for certain rooms to be organised, and makes good use of floor space.

Keeping track of certain items and ensuring ease of use is also a benefit to be gained from something as simple as shelves, as they will help the user to save time looking through endless clutter to actually fidn what they are looking for.
